Dr. Luke Peterson, a Hillsboro alumni and Medical Doctor (MD), gave the Health Care Careers class an in-depth look into the world of medicine. He explained the challenging journey to becoming a doctor, typically involving four years of undergraduate studies, in a science-focused field, followed by the rigorous four years of medical school. After medical school, aspiring doctors participate in residency programs, gaining practical experience in a specific area of medicine for at least three years.
Dr. Peterson also offered a practical introduction to the world of suturing, demonstrating some basic techniques used to close wounds. Students were excited to have the opportunity to ask Dr. Peterson questions and get hands-on exposure to the world of medicine.
