How can a box of buttons unlock different ways of thinking?
Hillsboro first graders discovered the answer via play. Sorting colorful buttons allowed students to develop important classification skills by groupings the objects according to different features, like color, size, shape, and texture. Later, they challenged their thinking by following different sorting rules and comparing their methods.
These essential classification skills are a stepping stone for later success in foundational math concepts, scientific thinking, critical thinking, problem-solving, information literacy, and organizational life skills.
