The music department added a new aspect this year to encourage positive behaviors by splitting the students into houses based on the Harry Potter novels!
The students were given a personality test to split them into four houses, with each house sharing similar characteristics and strengths. The 6th graders have kept the original Harry Potter house names, and the JH students (7-8) house names are based on band and choral composers.
They will be using class dojo to keep track of individual and house points. Check out these awesome pictures from their hat sorting ceremony!

As an introduction to the problem-solving process that will be used throughout the computer science course, the students worked in groups to design aluminum foil boats that will support as many pennies as possible.
At the end of the lesson, #HSDGoTigers reflected on their experiences and made connections to the problem-solving process.
They were very creative and came up with several different types of boats including a design that held 206 pennies!

COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP | Wednesday, September 26
The recent flooding has ravaged our community and surrounding communities over the last few weeks. The Hillsboro MS/HS will be having a community clean-up day during Homecoming week to help those whose houses or properties were damaged by the recent flooding. Students will not be able to use chemicals for cleaning but can pick up and move items, pick up garbage, paint, etc.
If you were fortunate enough to not have any flood damage but are still in need of assistance, we can help you as well. If you or someone you know would like some assistance, please contact Mr. Koopman at 489-1504 or at chris.koopman@hillsboroschools.org
